Heart of
Gold
Brodie was 11 years old when he
was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Brodie’s diagnosis changed our lives forever. We were introduced into the world of childhood cancer. We saw first hand what these children go through day in and day out. Brodie lived it for 5 long months. He is healed now, home with his Heavenly Father, but we still live it everyday. We understand the hardships. We understand the financial burden, we understand the pain. In honor of Brodie, we want to help other families. We want to help other children who are battling cancer. Brodie never met a stranger. He made it a point to get to know the other children at the hospital and help them whenever he could. He had a heart of
GOLD. A heart that wanted to help. We want to carry on that legacy.

Brodie Derrick was your typical energetic young boy. He loved being with his friends, fishing, and most of all baseball. Brodie played baseball in Lexington, SC. He had big dreams of playing baseball far into his future. All those dreams were put on hold in November of 2018 when he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was never able to play baseball again, but his love for the game never faded.
Meet Our Mascot,
Rusty!
Rusty joined our family in June of 2019. While in the hospital, Brodie loved visits from the therapy dogs. He decided, that once he was in remission and out of the hospital, he was going to get a golden retriever. Brodie wanted to train it to become a therapy dog. He wanted to go back to visit the children's hospital and visit the other children battling cancer. He wanted to brighten their day and bring happiness to them with his own therapy dog. Unfortunately, remission never came for Brodie and he passed away before we could make his wish come true. Shortly after Brodie passed away, we decided we had to try to fulfill his dreams of having a therapy dog. We began to look for new litters of golden retrievers. That is when we found Rusty. It was meant to be! Rusty was born on the very same night that Brodie passed away, 4/9/19. We knew this was a sign. It was meant for Rusty to join our family. The name Rusty is very special to us. Rusty was Brodie's nickname during the last season of baseball he played. That season ended only a week or two before his cancer diagnosis.
