Piper was diagnosed with Nephroblastoma (Wilms Tumor) on September 9, 2019, at the age of 5. The tumor had completely encapsulated her right kidney. Piper was on chemotherapy for 6 weeks prior to having surgery to remove the tumor due to the size. After surgery she underwent 6 rounds of radiation to her abdomen, then completed her 30 week regimen of chemotherapy. On April 30, 2020 she was declared NED (no evidence of disease). Piper is currently off treatment, but still returns to Prisma Health Children's Hospital Richland every 3 months for routine scans. She is a healthy, dinosaur loving, unicorn obsessed, rambunctious 7 year old now!
